Happy Birthday to VOXX!

Wow!  It was just a year ago we landed on our name and began this beautiful journey… VOXX!

Vox, latin for voice, with a double X in honor of women’s chromosomes.  That was a magical moment and has since resulted in a year of magical moments at four awesome events. The last year has been a whirlwind in so many ways.  As the holidays approach, we wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who joined our VOXX community and shared your spirit, your voice, your talents, your space, your presence.  It all mattered so much.  Here’s a quick recap of where we’ve been and where we are going.

Our first event, VOXX presents Filling the Void was on March 8 – International Women’s Day - at WeWork National Building.  Four incredible women shared their stories in how they changed course in their professional or personal lives to find greater purpose. Our brave first “couch sitters” Andrea Vaughn, Shayna Atkins, Kate Weidner and Amor Montes de Oca lit a spark that VOXX was onto something.

In late spring, we gathered at WeWork Kinzie to delve deeper into what makes us, us.  VOXX presents HERstory was an evening of both raucous laughs and raw authenticity.  Our couch conversations between Deb Doetzer, Susan Trieschmann, Brittani Martin and Dayna Calderon resulted in us laughing with and lifting up the most vulnerable among us.

19East was the gorgeous venue for our third event – VOXX presents Healing and the Road to Self-Love. In conversation one, Abena Boamah and Lauren Ash shared their work to empower women of color, from beauty products to finding inner peace through wellness.  Hope England and Karli Butler then took us on an intense journey of feminine will as they shared their stories of healing.  The audience was inspired like never before to open up and share their journeys as well.  The night left us quite speechless.

Our final event of the year was a Chicago Idea’s Week lab held in partnership with Queen’s Brunch and was entitled Finding Your Voice. Kari McGrath and Torri Garland spoke to each other on finding their voice in their work and life.  The audience was treated to a fantastic visualization exercise led by Kari of Shine Leadership, and then were compelled to share their personal learnings with the group.

Speaking of learnings…we have learned so much from each event and will hone those into a longer VOXX offering in early 2018.  We are developing a 4-hour event that will feature discussions, workshops and opportunities for sharing around the #metoo movement.

Thank you for being a part of VOXX’s beginnings.  We are inspired by the positive energy everyone has given us and are working to return all of it out to the world. Stay tuned!
